I think it is important to open communication and share out how we are creating learning spaces for students. In an attempt to open my doors virtually I have decided to share my room, what items I use, and how the room is laid out.

As any great educator knows, our rooms change daily. This page is dedicated to the things that I know are not going anywhere anytime soon and if I know longer use a particular item or layout method, then I will remove them from this page.

To start with I want to share with you the video I made for the Classroom Cribs Challenge. This will give you a general sense of my room. I will break down the items below along with many things not featured that I did not have time to share. Keep in mind that about a week after this video, I organized my room in a new format so nothing is ever permanent.

Goal of Coffeechug Cafe

Simply put, I want an area for learning that does not look like “education” I want a place in the school that does not feel like school, where students want to come in, touch things, figure out how things work, experiment their own designs, and just basically be a kid again. If I can develop a space where students are asking “Why?” again like a four year old, then I have done my job.

On the flipside, I want the parts and pieces available to move that Why question into action. I love ideas, but they are useless if not acted upon. As we continue to push the boundaries of what education looks like, I want this room to be the place where new ideas emerge.
