Flat Classroom: What are your favorite RSS Feeds, what does your main page look like, and other discussion questions

As I continue to push myself past the basics of technology( I feel that I am ahead of many people, but have much progress to make) I thought that I would continue to share my questions, thoughts, concerns, and insights here on my blog. I considered creating a new blog to keep for just education, but I already have so much out there on the internet that I don’t think I could handle and organize another site.

As I am focusing on my PLN(Personal Learning Network) and CMP(Classroom Monitoring Portal) I am trying to piece them both together. Right now I use iGoogle for my PLN and it needs some re-tweaking. I have many things displayed that I don’t use and waste time sifting on various sites. This week I plan to overhaul my iGoogle page. I would provide a link to my iGoogle page, but I don’t know how to share that info or if it is even possible. Needless to say, I have my work cut out for me.

I also use FeeddlerRSS as my Google Reader app. I find this to be more beneficial that using the actual reader. The one downside is that it is not easy to leave comments. I typically star and share the ones I like and then go back later and leave comments. I feel like I am wasting time here also, but if I feel like leaving a comment, then I must have something worthwhile to share(I guess that is subject to argument).

I still need help with creating a Classroom Monitoring Portal. I have already had some good suggestions and examples shared, but am still looking for more. My goal for next year is to have this designed and created for all my classes. I have made this a top priority.

I do have a few questions for discussion that I hope people share and a conversation ensues in the comments.

1. I was just curious what some of your favorite feeds are in your RSS Reader? As I manage my reader and begin to remove and add some feeds I thought I would see what others read on a daily basis.

2. How do you use a PLN and a CMP? I am struggling with how to have both and utlize something like iGoogle in my classroom. For some reason I am having a brain fart and cannot visualize how I can have both. Any examples or suggestions would be great. What have been some benefits. What links have you included to benefit your classroom.

3. As I tweak my iGoogle homepage I am curious as to what others have on their page?

4. What is your favorite RSS reader apps or sites? Always looking for a better tool than what I currently use.

Keep on working hard people and I look forward to hearing from many of you.
