Focus on what you can control

2017 has been super crazy ass busy. It has just been an insane few weeks.

This has been good as it has really forced me to focus on the essentials of life.

1. Family
2. Being a good husband and father
3. Being a good educator
4. Self Exploration

In this order. As busy as life has been and as stressful as busyness can be it has forced to really dial in my time. I am working to eliminate the clutter of my life that distracts me from my goals.

It is not easy, but I am making great strides.

So what has been going on?

First, I have begun another season of 8th grade boys basketball. I love coaching. It is one of my favorite things to do. Coaching allows me to see kids in a whole new light and gives me hope that even the kids that cause headaches in the classroom can be awesome.

This year I have created a Google Classroom for our team where I share schedules, rosters, stats, etc. Most importantly I share a daily thought to help them think about the bigger picture.

I have decided to publish these pieces on Medium for others to read. Feel free to check them out and let me know what you think. https://medium.com/@coffeechugbooks/latest

I have not been blogging as much as I normally do, but things will pick up. I have been writing a lot, but nothing for the blog specifically.

Here are the latest

I have been building out a new Google Sites. I love the new sites. So beautiful and easy to use. I have started to use my new site to house all my PD, workshops, and conference sessions.

I just placed the finishing touches on my new work for an upcoming class to teach pre-service teachers. I have been waiting for this moment since 2014 when I called out higher education for not doing enough to prepare the next wave of teachers. I finally have a chance to act upon my words. I could not be more excited.

Here is a link if you want to see what I have been working on for a few weeks. It is still in rough beta but I hope to have it all polished by end of February.

I welcome any feedback.

This is all I am focusing on right now. My Book.

I am writing. I am grinding through the process of getting the words from my brain into my Scrivener document. It is tough. It is a challenge.

Until I hit my 50,000 word mark I will not be blogging or doing much else on this website or other methods. Feel free to reach out via social media.

In the meantime I will be sharing bits of my book here on Medium and sharing ideas on Facebook for insights, and for conversation around certain ideas.

I promise I have not gone off the deep end(well maybe I have) and lost my voice. Rather, I need to shut down many things in my life to focus on this monstrous goal of mine that I have thought about for years and failed at it time and time again.

Not this time.

Until I reach 50,000 words, keep pushing forward and looking forward to engaging with you when I share bits and pieces from the book.
