Purposeful Play Class 1: LEGO

I have always had a love for hands on learning and play. I have seen this type of learning continue to get stifled in schools with all the pressures mounting on schools, teachers, and students. As stress, fatigue, anxiety, and burnout continue to increase for both students and adults I see a bigger need to help support education with infusing more play and wonder into the classroom.

I have decided to do something about it. After leading several PD sessions and workshops using LEGO and other materials as a way to bring excitement to learning I realize I can do more.

Starting the week of April 15th I will begin a 6 week course on Purposeful Play using only LEGO. Yes, I have plans for future courses using other materials, but this one is all about LEGO.

Head over to the class page and sign up for the newsletter and I will get you added to the class. While you wait you will need to find some LEGO pieces. Nothing fancy, just the good old basic awesome bricks that last a lifetime.

Each week we will follow a simple routine. I will share some ideas basic ideas through a weekly video. I will then give you a challenge to complete and share feedback as you implement in your class or kids after school. Finally, you will work to design your own challenge based on the theme to share with the group.

The end goal is not only do you learn some ideas for your classroom, but through everyone crowdsourcing ideas we will create an awesome resource guide with even more amazing ideas.

  1. I would love to participate. I tried to join the Google Classroom with my personal and my work (school) Google sign in IDs but it didn’t work. 🙁
