Who is Coffeechug?

Hello! Welcome to the About Me page for Aaron Maurer or as I am known in school and online Coffeechug. Coffeechug is a nickname that stuck with me back when I taught sixth grade social studies and was Emperorer Coffeechug during an ancient Rome simulation. I have not lost the name due to the fact that I am always seen with a cup of coffee in hand.
I am currently serving as STEM Lead for the Mississippi Bend AEA and the Founder of a non profit called 212 STEAM Labs, Inc. Prior to this I served as an Instructional Coach for Bettendorf Middle School. I have been in education for over a decade teaching sixth grade social studies, literature and computer as well as spending many years teaching gifted education in grades 4-8 before taking on the new role of instructional coach. I am a member of the Lego Education Advisory Panel, PBS Digital Innovator, PITSCO Tag Committee,  Microsoft Innovator Educator Expert, and was a finalist for the Iowa Teacher of the Year in 2014. I am also an avid fan of STEM, Makerspaces, and Project Based Learning. In my free time I love to spend time with my three kids, Aiden, Addyson, and Ava, and our bulldog Frankie May, and acting like the fourth child to my wife Amanda. Last, I am an avid coffee consumer frequently spotted wearing bow ties searching for the that perfect cup of joe. You can find all of my work on this website www.coffeeforthebrain.com as well as Twitter @coffeechugbooks
This blog is a collection of my thoughts and ideas. They are in no way associated with the schools that I work for and do not reflect the thoughts of anyone except me.
My goal with this blog and everything I do in life is to challenge myself and others in their lives and thinking. I hope you find the content useful and look forward to connecting.
I am always available to present and speak if needed. I have all past presentations shared on this site along with all project.
