Coffeechug made it a personal goal to overcome the fear of public speaking a few years ago when he started off presenting at ITAG (Iowa Talented and Gifted Conference). From the first presentation there has been no looking back as I have fallen in love with the powerful collaboration and networking opportunities that come from sharing ideas. If I stress to others that they need to celebrate their strengths and share with the world their gifts, then I need to lead by example and share what I feel is helpful to educators. I am available to help run workshops, PD, conference sessions, and keynotes. Please contact me if interested

I understand the challenge of finding just the right speaker. It is one thing to be comfortable in front of a class of students and quite another to be comfortable to stand in front of a room of adults. I love them both and find great inspiration feeding off the energy of the crowds.

What You Can Expect

Here’s what you can expect from me:

  1. Prompt, professional replies to your phone calls and email messages.
  2. A highly energized presentation that is not a sit and get. I infuse collaboration, conversation, and doing/making things so the minds of the audience are challenged.
  3. An announcement about your event on my blog and social media channels. (This assumes that your event is open to the public and you want additional visibility for it.) I always blog about my experiences as well as share out reflections after each presentation.
  4. A prepared, highly visual presentation focused on achieving the outcomes you want with your audience. I won’t do death by powerpoint!
  5. A custom resource page, exclusively created for your attendees. It will include the slides I used in the presentation, along with links to books, articles, and other resources I believe will be helpful. I love to have a resource page for everyone to go back and refer to so we can keep the conversation going after the presentation.

The Next Step

Thanks again for considering me for your event. You can take the next step by checking my availability. Just click on my Contact Me page and I will respond as soon as I can.

The Most Requested Topics

I speak on topics related to leadership, life balance, productivity, and social media all infused through the lens of education. I will customize my presentation to meet your organization’s specific needs. My goal is to facilitate the outcome you want to create. I am open to designing new presentations if there is something you would like and I have the resources and knowledge to speak on the topic.

Speedgeeking with Coffeechug

This will be rapid fire session of technology tips, tricks and productivity tools that I use in my classroom and school to help make life easier for both myself as a teacher and for students. I will share out things I use in the classroom as well as at home and every space in between. These ideas will give you time to enjoy that cup of coffee and have fun at the same time! The key here is simplicity and productivity.

Googlegeeking with Coffeechug

Come ready to explore all aspects of the Google Universe. In this session we will explore apps, extensions, tools, oddities, shortcuts and more that I use to make my life easier. These are all tried and true tools that we have sampled and explored. We will play and sample and fly by the seat of our pants with the time we have together. Come ready to have fun and learn.

Makerspace: It is About the Culture, Not the Tools

Come ready to make things happen. In under one hour we will discuss 5 questions about makerspaces, dive into the importance of focusing on the culture of a makerspace and not the tools. Additionally, the audience will undergo a build, play, and share cycle through a hands on immersive challenge to experience the culture before walking away with your own set of LEGO pieces to get started. Audience will learn how to apply these ideas into any classroom and school.

*I have ran this several times as a workshop from 2-4 hours

Build and creating Global Connections in the Classroom

Want to connect your classroom with the world and promote global citizenship? Using Skype, you can connect students across town, around the world, bring in industry experts, or take virtual field trips. Learn how you can connect with other educators, get lesson plans, start a project and more from Skype in the Classroom.

The Tink Tank 2

This is not another sit and get. Come ready to play, tinker, design, experiment, and present your learning at the end. Stations will be set up to get you up and moving. This is not a session to sit and check Facebook. Come ready to learn and get involved. Stations are mysteries until the day of, but I promise fun!

Other possible topics that I have presented on in previous engagements

Screen Shot 2014-07-30 at 7.11.52 AMGlobal Classroom: If you are not connected with educators and classrooms from around the world, then you are missing out. This session will work on how to develop a social media presence, connect with educators, and how to increase the focus of students by connecting them to students around the world. Why not build in an authentic audience instead of students just turning work into their teachers?

IMG_5758Coffeechug Cafe: Every classroom should have their own unique personality. So many classrooms all blend together looking the same. This will be the story of how I crafted my own unique flavor to my room and how I worked to make it happen. Theme – creating learning spaces, makerspaces, creativity, and a place of comfort to fail!

groupStudent Voice: Too often, leaders and educators don’t really listen to students. The most powerful voice in the educational landscape is the voice of the youth. Through many trials and tribulations we have found ways to really utilize student voice and help students feel empowered by their ideas.

Screen Shot 2014-05-22 at 1.15.08 PMThe Tink Tank 1: BrushArtBot: This session will challenge the audience to play, explore, and tinker through a Maker activity of building a Brushbot and converting it into an Artbot which I like call BrushArtbot. Be ready to collaborate, use tools, build, experiment, fail forward, and walk away with new connections and ideas. The goal is to get educators to understand the power of play and how we need to incorporate this idea more into our core classes. Come ready to act like a kid again! BrushArtBot Project

A hands on presentation and quickly becoming my favorite.

Ready to tickle your brain in a creative showdown between teams entering the Olympic arena of coding and playing? Come prepared to tinker, hack and play with Sphero Robots. Build, code and race to see which team garners Sphero Ninja status. If bragging rights are on your conference bucket list then Sphero Smackdown is for you! Disclaimer: Participants may experience uncontrollable laughter, brain farts, temper tantrums and more.

This session will explore robotics, engineering, and the even more importance concept of play and tinkering. We will spend time learning to program the Sphero Robot. Once we have the basics understood, then teams will be divided to see who can earn the rights to baddest, fastest, most accurate robot title through a series of challenges.
