#25daysofmaking Day 24 FUSED PLASTIC CHRISTMAS TREE WITH LEDS

“Often when you think you’re at the end of something, you’re at the beginning of something else.”
– Fred Rogers

Dear all my wonderful friends,

Welcome to day 24. While I know this is a day where we are scrambling to get all our final shopping, wrapping, cooking, and house cleaning done PLEASE take time to pause and enjoy in the moment.

I watched Mary Poppins Returns last night and it reminded me to live a god life and to see all the possibilities in all the things around us.

With that, I present project 24 which comes from one of the most talented educators I know. The beauty of my new job is to work with outstanding educators from all over the area and this teacher is one that is blowing the lid off of teaching STEM and Computer Science.

If you are interested in seeing her classroom and how she manages it all, then head here to see images and listen my podcast with Terri Smith.

The project she shares today mixes a great way to make with all those plastic bags you are bringing home and mixing in some Arduino coding.

Are you ready?

Create

The project is going to have you fuse together all your plastic bags into a usable material. You now have a new purpose to look at all those plastic bags stashed in your house. What colors do you want to use? Any cool patterns. This project really has you looking at plastic in all new ways.

Once you have your plastic it is time to fuse them together to create new material. Terri has provided such great details. From there you will add some LED lights and code your new Christmas Tree or any other design you wish to make.

Don’t have any Arduino? What about a Raspberry Pi or Hummingbird Kit or Makey Makey? Use what you have!

We hope you enjoy the 24th day of making a project.

Share

Add your project or any other projects you are working on through these options to share how you approached today’s challenge or the one from yesterday. Then, check out and comment on some other examples when they are shared.

Besides using the hashtag #25daysofmaking on Instagram and Twitter I am also posting the projects over on Facebook so you can interact on this platform as well.

Finally, don’t forget to head over to Flipgrid and introduce yourself and/or your students!

Reflect

This element is important! Don’t neglect reflection on your own learning. We must be lifelong learners and be models to our students.

Take a moment to reflect on your creative process by sharing with the hashtags and other mediums. Let us start a conversation about this concept. How did remixing help you? What questions do you still have about remixing?
