#25daysofmaking Project 13: Santa’s Sleigh 2.0

“The creative mind plays with the objects it loves.”—Carl Jung

Dear all flight crew and sleigh designers,

Welcome to day 13. Today we bring you a project that students will LOVE and once again does not require a ton of resources. The beauty of this project is that you can upgrade the project itself depending on what you have available to do so.

What I love about this project is that we a 4th grade teacher providing the way to showcase how maker projects can be done in the classroom. Not every single maker project needs to be done in a media center. She also proves the powers of connection and tapping into the local community resources to strengthen the learning.

I realize that a project a day is a lot. There is no way to get them all done or to process them when they come in every 24 hours. However, I hope that you are inspired and getting new ideas about how to remix the projects for future lessons. Additionally, don’t be afraid to tackle some of these. This time of year our kiddos need a little something different as we all hold on tight to get to winter break.

We hope you enjoy the 13th day of making project. I am so lucky to be able to work with Sarah Shepherd and learn from all the amazing ideas she develops for her students.

Create

The 13th project is a project that easily allows our imagination to run wild. It also will not cost you a penny as you are simply using basic materials that you have access to, but it has an unlimited upgrade option to use makey makey, circuit playground, micro:bit, or anything else that you have access to. This is what makes projects like these amazing. There are no barriers to the making except our imaginations.

Pay attention to how she has developed roles around design thinking and ensuring everyone is involved in the process. As you check the pictures out you will see many entry points. Even using the green screen for some amazing final pictures adds a nice tough.

Even if you are not a classroom teacher you can do thisat home with your children or perhaps even your spouse. Making can be done anywhere!

Share

Add your project or any other projects you are working on through these options to share how you approached today’s challenge or the one from yesterday. Then, check out and comment on some other examples when they are shared.

Besides using the hashtag #25daysofmaking on Instagram and Twitter I am also posting the projects over on Facebook so you can interact on this platform as well.

Finally, don’t forget to head over to Flipgrid and introduce yourself and/or your students!

Reflect

This element is important! Don’t neglect reflection on your own learning. We must be lifelong learners and be models to our students.

Take a moment to reflect on your creative process by sharing with the hashtags and other mediums. Let us start a conversation about this concept. How did remixing help you? What questions do you still have about remixing?
