I am thrilled to announce the LEGO Culinary Clash, a new  challenge blending the joy of LEGO building with the excitement of culinary creativity. Perfect for students of all ages, this challenge is designed to spark imagination, create collaboration, and develop critical thinking skills.

What is the LEGO Culinary Clash?

The LEGO Culinary Clash is an innovative challenge where students use LEGO bricks to create characters inspired by food. It’s a journey through themes of heroism, villainy, and neutrality, all constructed with the vibrant versatility of LEGO. These are basically two of my favorite things – food and good shows and movies. This challenge is more than just building; it’s about storytelling, character development, and bringing culinary concepts to life in a playful, imaginative way.

How Does It Work?

• Duration & Structure: Tailored to fit various schedules, the challenge can be a quick 30-minute session or extended over several classes for a deeper dive. Check out an example of a one-day School Zoo challenge.
• Participants: Students can work individually or in pairs, with a focus on collaboration and teamwork. The challenge is designed for an 8×8 LEGO baseplate per character, allowing up to 64 teams for a full chessboard layout(see guide for modifications).
• Materials & Setup: Basic LEGO bricks, white paper for drafting ideas, and an introductory video to kickstart creativity. Educators are encouraged to participate and guide the students.

The Role of Creative Constraints

Creative constraints are crucial in this challenge. They guide thinking and imagination within a framework, helping students think outside the box. Constraints include incorporating a food element, embodying a character trait, and fitting the creation on the 8×8 baseplate.

All builds should be photographed and labeled. Students can use tools like Flip for video explanations. Showcasing work is important to celebrate the ideas of the learners using various presentation methods, from school-wide displays to story writing.
