Another caffeine fix for your brain

Issue #14

3.3.13

Question of the week:

This week I pose the question: What is the best assessment you received when you were a student?

What I Am Thinking and Learning This Week

Chris Hadfield on Life, the Universe and What’s Really Out There I really need to read his book and I can watch his interviews all day long.

How to Get a Job at Google I love this article and hope it creates a wave of thought where we can start to move away from the grades we issue in public schools. What is an A anymore anyways?

When You Fall in Love, This Is What Facebook Sees – are we really that predictable?

What Drives Success?  Not always sure there is a clear cut answer, but I enjoyed reading this article.

Why some kids can’t spell and why spelling tests won’t help – A very interesting read and one that I am sure is causing some great conversation. I still remember spelling equation wrong in my elementary spelling bee. Devastating moment.

What books am I reading?

Design. Make. Play. by Margaret Honey – a MUST read if you are involved in Design Thinking, STEM, and anything education related. So good!

Getting ready to start From Gutenberg to Zuckerberg by John Naughton – I still have not started. Just did not scream at me when I finished the book above

Breakpoint by Jeff Stibel – My last three reads might go down as the top reads of 2014. This book was just as good as Physics of the Future and Design Make Play but in a whole different way.

What are you reading? Let me know!

Last week I did watch two movies. Not as many as before since it was test week and time to give legs a rest.

Heat – very funny. Not a Sandra Bullock fan at all, but Melissa McCarthy is so funny. Not for kids by any means, but so funny.

Side Effects – this movie really grabbed me. I did not see things coming as they did. I just had to retell the whole movie to my wife. It would have been better for her to just watch it. A good thriller.
