My Thoughts
I read her first novel Wildfire Run which I loved. You can read my review here. I loved it. It was a action packed romp. I was very excited when Dee was nice enough to send me a copy of her latest novel. It came in the mail and I stopped all my current reading(which I have a pile of about 30 books).
I sat down this weekend and set off to the world of snow and wolves. This story has a very cool plot line in terms of a remote location, young actors trying to get their big movie break, wolves, hungry wolves, and a snowstorm. These are all elements to another perfect action packed story.
The book is geared for ages 8-12, grades 3-7, and comes in at around 280 pages. For this particular demographic of kids it is perfect. Great suspense and enough action themes to hold their interest. I kept thinking to myself that if this book was a YA or teen level read it would be unbelievable!! If she could add add some more violence and dial up some relationship and creepy guy issues this book would be fantastic. However, it is geared for the lower age and she does a perfect job of creating this same sense, but for a younger age.
I have to say it here, but the whole time I had this complete scenario played out as to why things were happening and I was way off, but I think it is an idea for a great book. Maybe my key to actually start writing after all these years of talking about it.
This book is one in which I wish my son was older because he would love it(he is only 6 so he is still trying to figure out how to read). I see this book being a big hit with the boys. This novel is another nice novel for Dee Garretson to add to her collection. She is developing into a great author and I wish her great success when this book is finally published.
