I love LEGO EV3 Mindstorms
I love MakeCode when working with Micro:bits, Circuit Playground, and Minecraft Education
Recently, MakeCode announced compatibility with LEGO EV3. I think the idea of open sourced coding for many platforms is becoming a huge development as computer science and STEM continue to grow and develp. We will see Scratch 3.0 in August be compatible with LEGO EV3 as well.
I wanted to dive into MakeCode and see how it works with LEGO EV3. This could be a huge asset as we work with students to move from block to line coding. In MakeCode you have the ability to code in javascript and even better a student can switch back and forth between block and line coding.
My goal is to document my learning journey as I work to see if I can use MakeCode to achieve the work I recently completed for our upcoming LEGO EV3 summer camps. I want to be able to put it to the test.
But, for now we must begin at ground zero.
I needed to learn how to connect the devices, make sure my firmware was updated, and ensure communication between code and brick.
This is my first video in the series with many more to come as I continue to explore MakeCode.
