Yesterday, I posted all the details for the new daily LEGO build challenge starting May 4th. You can read all the details in this post
LEGO May 2020 Quarantine Build Challenge Announcement https://wp.me/p4covo-2ID
Part of the exciting news is that I shared that in addition to the daily builds I am going to be posting some bigger build challenges to help builders increase their skills in creation and to learn some new ways of problem solving.
I tested this concept a few weeks ago when I did a Livestream and shared all instructions and materials needed to make a LEGO Sphere
Today, I share the latest challenge and I am just giddy with excitement because this is so COOL!
As you will see in the video this build concept came to me when I was cleaning my workspace and found a bin full of cardboard automata for a workshop I hosted many times for educators. I started to think about how I could build these with LEGO.
…….. fast forward to the last few weeks where at the same time as I was thinking about this idea I stumbled upon Steve Guinness who won LEGO Masters in 2017 in the UK. He posted on Instagram some mechanical builds he created that were exactly what I was thinking BUT way BETTER way COOLER and just overall AWESOME!
And here we are now. Working together to help provide you an opportunity to build and learn.
Are you ready?
Step 1: The Challenge
Your challenge is to learn the basics of making Mechanical Minifigure Habitats based on the ideas of Steve. He has assembled 7 guides on his website for you to check out. Use these to learn, but in the end we want you to create your own creative habitats and mechanical builds. You can create one or link several up together as he has done.
On May 7th at 1:00 pm CST Steve and I will return to host a Show and Tell celebrating all the builds you have created and submitted(details below)
Step 2: Gather Materials
Here is an image of all the elements needs to get you through the first three mechanical builds that we cover in the video and instructions.
Remember, if you don’t have a piece or two, then use your brain power to come up with a different solution. It does not have to be exactly like you see!
Step 3: Instruction Guide
Steve has graciously taken time to create online build instructions. I have them here for you to follow along if you need this version
Step 4: Video – Interview and Build Process
Step 5: Share Your Builds!
Option 1: Post your builds to the FB Post – please share you pictures of your builds to this post
Option 2: Share a video of your build to our Flipgrid
Option 3: You can email me like many of you do and. I will add them to the website
Step 6: Show and Tell Event
Steve and I will be showcasing all of your builds on the Show and Tell episode. If you submit a build through any of the options above we will highlight and discuss during the show. Additionally, if you have any questions for Steve or I you can post them to the link below and we will answer them during the show as well. Feel free to ask him anything about LEGO while you have a chance to speak with a master builder!
