Marvel Magic: Ryan Peganos and Lorraine Cink Inspire Mark Twain 5th Graders with Comic Reading

There was an air of excitement and inspiration at Mark Twain Elementary School as students in 5th grade eagerly awaited the arrival of their special guests, Ryan Peganos aka Agent M and Lorraine Cink from Marvel. As part of a Marvel x Scholastic collaboration book series, Ryan and Lorraine led a comic reading of Ms. Marvel: Stretched Thin (Original Graphic Novel), captivating the young audience with an unforgettable experience.

During the event, Ryan shared how reading comics helped him expand his vocabulary and improve his speaking and writing skills. His passion for comics was palpable, and the students were thrilled to hear about the impact comics had on his life. Lorraine, meanwhile, discussed the complexity of heroes and villains in comics. She highlighted how these characters embody the full range of human emotions, making them relatable and intriguing to readers.

The visit had a profound impact on the students, who were in awe that people like Ryan and Lorraine(do you realize how incredible this is that we hung out with them virtually!), who work at Marvel and create, discuss, and play a role in the shows, movies, comics, podcasts, YouTube, social media and books they love, took the time to hang out and read with them. The experience inspired the students to pick up books and comics to read and fostered a newfound appreciation for the art of storytelling.

By sharing their personal journeys and experiences, Ryan and Lorraine served as powerful role models, showing the students that they could pursue careers based on their interests and passions. The visit also reinforced the idea that reading comics is not only enjoyable but can be educational and cool.

The students left the event feeling inspired and motivated to explore the world of comics and reading. Thanks to Ryan Peganos and Lorraine Cink, a new generation of readers and creators has been ignited. We are incredibly grateful for their visit and the lasting impact they’ve made on our students.

Go check out the book and leave a comment with some of your favorite comic stories, characters, events, etc.

This is something that many of these students do not realize how cool this opportunity was, but when they connect the dots with who they were engaged with for school, their capes will be flowing with pride!
