We are live! The course has begun. A six month journey exploring play and how to infuse play into purposeful learning to meet the needs of both students and educators.
I have always had a love for hands on learning and play. I have seen this learning continue to get stifled in schools with all the pressures mounting on schools, teachers, and students. As stress, fatigue, anxiety, and burnout continue to increase for both students and adults I see a bigger need to help support education with infusing more play and wonder into the classroom.
I have done something about it. After leading several PD sessions and workshops using LEGO and other materials to bring excitement to learning I realize I can do more.
Back in April of 2019 I launched the first version of Purposeful Play with LEGO course. It was a six-week blitz of play and building with a new topic each week. It was incredible.
I have brought it back, but with changes. A slower pace, new activities, new learning, and more opportunities to connect, learn, and share.
The whole month of December is focused on creativity. It is a great topic to start with because there are no wrong answers when it comes to creativity.
- Learn at your pace. There is a lot on the page. Remember, you have an entire month to process and if you need more time, then take more time. There are no grades or detentions so make it work for you.
- Engagement is key. This course and learning only works if you build and play. It only works if you experiment with ideas in your learning space. It only works if we connect in our course and support one another, share ideas(regardless of if we think it is good or not), and build community.
- Take things one bite at a time. Share your ideas, reflections, builds, questions, and ideas. We have many channels to connect. I am so excited for this group of educators. We have a powerful group. We are starting with over 65 educators. This number will grow as we get going.
