WDYLTW 4.18.13 Recording and Thoughts

Last night I hosted the second session of What Did You Learn This Week on Google Hangouts.

Basically, here is what this session is about

Looking for a place to just connect with other people and share out a few things you are learning this week?

You don’t have to be an expert, but someone who just wants to share.

Where the conversation ends up who knows, but that is the fun of these sessions.

Last night was another great session. As always several sign up saying they are going to show up and then the reality kicks in and many don’t attend. It is just the way it is. However, last night Mr. Casal  @Mr_Casal joined me for a conversation.

What I like best about these meetings is that I never know where they are going to go in terms of discussion. The unknown is what intrigues me because I love to hear other ideas and thoughts.

I started off sharing out my ideas of teaching “How To’s” in terms of my experiment of teaching Twitter to educators after hearing Ginger Lewman and her ideas in her YouTube video

I found it so interesting that all of these ideas came together in one week. It must have been a sign for me to ponder more and I am now working through this idea in greater detail.

Talking with Mr. Casal last night took the conversation to a different level. I was very interested in his ideas of technology in elementary schools and how to sell technology. I love his ideas on how to make it happen. His concerns were spot on and if you are a teacher you know have thought some of these thoughts before.

I walked away with some ideas that I want to explore more.
1. How can we continue to sell the power of technology or teaching from the grassroots level?
2. How can teachers find more time to share and connect within their schools?
3. Why do we not place more technology into the hands of younger students who are already tech savvy and therefore eliminate the learning curve that comes when we place technology at the higher levels?

It was a great conversation. I thank Mr. Casal for taking time to join. I plan on doing another one again next week, but in the morning to help connect with the others who were not able to join due to time zone. I will make sure I adapt and connect to others who were not able to join.
