Full Stack Learners Community

What is Full Stack Learners?

Full Stack Learners is an online private community where educators can come together to share ideas, ask questions, and empower one another in all things STEAM, Makerspace, and Computer Science. The goal and aim is to help bring together all of our ideas so we can create more powerful learning experiences for students all over.

What is up with the name?

When I read the book, New Power, they discuss the idea of a Full Stack Society that is based on coders who work together on the front and back end supports for a program or platform to work. As we think in broader terms of society and the need of people, business, and ideas coming together to create new models that empower and connect one another to develop a better society, I instantly thought of education.

How do we work collectively among educators in different schools without feeling like work or one more thing? How do we help so many educators in these fields who work in isolation or silos feel connected and not alone? How do we help each other realize we don’t have to create ourselves all the time?

These were the questions I want to answer. Just like programmers we can all use our expertise to compile different components to work together to strenghten our classrooms and learning spaces by integrating the ideas so learning hums along and creates new models of learning. I want to bring together all the layers of our expertise into one place so we can all benefit.

Why Slack?

I chose Slack for a variety of reasons

  1. It works on almost any platform. Download the app for your phone or use your web browser, or download the desktop app. You have control about your access.
  2. Easy integration of tools. We can host our Skype calls within Slack. We can add calendars and anything else along the way to make life easier.
  3. Private. I don’t want this to be wide open access to the community. We need a safe space to ask questions and let others know we need help. I hope this private space will allow this to happen.

What exactly will this space be?

  • A safe space to ask questions and seek help from other educators doing the same work as you
  • Monthly maker/STEM challenges that you can use in your learning space as well as enhance your skills
  • Featured Guest Speakers that will allow you to ask question and learn more from those doing the work
  • Giveaways and perks as things develop
  • A community to help connect all the educators that feel they are working in isolation

I want to join!

You can request access and I will work with you to determine if it is a good fit or not! We look forward to learning from so many so we can all get better.
