I am pushing my comfort zones of coding, building, and scale of project. I have tackled an open source challenge discovered at Hackster.io (one of my favorite sites ever!). The challenge involves building a robot of your choice using LEGO EV3 Mindstorms and connecting it to Amazon Alexa.
LEGO MINDSTORMS Voice Challenge
With permission from Hackster.io I have created my own dedicated website documenting my entire learning journey. I have copied over their guides as the framework, but have added my own insights, thoughts, and elements as I learn. I have done this to document my learning for myself and for others. I think it is important to lead by example on focusing on the learning journey and not the end product itself. In education, I encourage educators to have students celebrate and focus on the journey and not just the result especially in STEM and CS.
The website is up here: https://sites.google.com/view/ev3-alexa/home
Today is just the day of making it public. You will see I have the website framed up for the entire project.
At this point I have added my own notes to the following pages
- What You Need
- Setup pages: I have added video showcasing how I prepared the EV3 brick
- Troubleshoot: Three snags I have dealt with already
I will post updates to this site when I add new content to gauge my learning journey. I have a lot of video to edit and publish over the next few days. This part of the project can sometimes be more work than the learning and building. I have had to stop my learning to get caught up in documentation. Over the next few days I will post the updated videos and update the site.
For now, I hope it serves as an example of sharing your learning and to serve as a reminder to never stop learning.
Onwards to the building and coding!
