#25daysofmaking Day 17 HIGH-FIVE ✋, HERMEY the ELF!

Hey, what do you say we both be independent together, huh?

Hermey The Elf

Dear all members of the Island of Misfit Toys,

Welcome to day 17. I LOVE all of these projects, but I really LOVE this one. Why? Because I think Hummingbird Robotic hardware are so adaptable to so many different curriculum opportunities. As stated on the page for this project, “Robotics is for everyone, not just people with PhDs. Robotics can be fun, simple, and even cute! ”

Anytime I see classic holiday movies woven into a project I get even more excited.

And if you have not listened to my podcast with Katie Henry from Birdbrain you must! Not because it is my podcast, but because Katie has such an articulate way of challenging our thinking about how we learn and view learning in the landscape of education.

068: Katie Henry of Birdbrain Technologies – Don’t Pick The Low Hanging Fruit!

If you do this project, then give a shout out to Kelsey from Bridbraind. She took time from a crazy schedule to put this project and page together. And yes, I am listening to her playlist while I create this message and project. Head over to the page and check it all out!

Create

The 17th project is a project that will help students see robotics in a new lens. In this case you will be making Hermey the Elf from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer movie. This project offers a clever way to understand motors and sensors for an intereactive high five elf.

It will be important to work together. As the quote above states from Hermey, sometimes we think we are working together, but end up doing our own thing. Work together and create some magic!

What else could we make besides Hermey? Could we recreate the whole island?

We hope you enjoy the 17th day of making project.

Share

Add your project or any other projects you are working on through these options to share how you approached today’s challenge or the one from yesterday. Then, check out and comment on some other examples when they are shared.

Besides using the hashtag #25daysofmaking on Instagram and Twitter I am also posting the projects over on Facebook so you can interact on this platform as well.

Finally, don’t forget to head over to Flipgrid and introduce yourself and/or your students!

Reflect

This element is important! Don’t neglect reflection on your own learning. We must be lifelong learners and be models to our students.

Take a moment to reflect on your creative process by sharing with the hashtags and other mediums. Let us start a conversation about this concept. How did remixing help you? What questions do you still have about remixing?
