“C is for Cookie” Cookie Monster
Dear makers,
Welcome to day 8. I can’t think of a better time than today to make cookies. So how does one apply STEM and Makerspace to my favorite holiday treats?
Easy
First, we have the science of baking if you are so fortunate enough to be able to cook with students in your school.
Second, this is a project that delights kids and families. In the project today students of all ages(all the way to kindergarten) can design and make cookie cutters. Once they are printed students can take them home and cook in the kitchen with their parents.
This project helps to build connections at home while strengthening STEM at school.
A perfect win win situation for everyone.
And of course we can’t do this project without singing the classic Cookie Monster song either!
We hope you enjoy the 8th day of making project.
Create
Be sure to have students study cookie cutters. Bring them into class. Have them hold conversations about what they see in the designs of the cookie cutter. Dig online to find more. What I have found to be really important is having them sketch ideas on paper first!
If working with younger kids or anyone new to CAD design the website Cookie Caster is a great way to get started.
Share
Add your project or any other projects you are working on through these options to share how you approached today’s challenge or the one from yesterday. Then, check out and comment on some other examples when they are shared.
Besides using the hashtag #25daysofmaking on Instagram and Twitter I am also posting the projects over on Facebook so you can interact on this platform as well.
Finally, don’t forget to head over to Flipgrid and introduce yourself and/or your students!
Reflect
This element is important! Don’t neglect reflection on your own learning. We must be lifelong learners and be models to our students.
Take a moment to reflect on your creative process? Create a notebook, use a Google Doc, Evernote, Word Document….. What did you like most about your project? What would you do with it next, if you had more time? What are you planning to do?
Looking forward to hearing your adventures in making
