#25daysofmaking Project 11 Micro:bit Ornaments

“The real act of discovery consists not in finding new lands but in seeing with new eyes.”—Marcel Proust

Dear decorators and coders,

Welcome to day 11. The project today is going to challenge your making and coding skills. Before we dive into the details of the project down in the Create section I want to highligh a few projects and ideas.

First, we are reading the midway point of projects. As these ideas come in to your inbox each morning make sure you are intentionally building upon prior work: your own projects, projects you’ve worked on with students and friends, or projects you were inspired by these 25 days. We would love to see and read about your projects and work.

More importantly, what might you discover with new eyes by remixing in the coming days—and today, as we explore the a project that can easily be infused with prior projects?

We hope you enjoy the 10th day of making project.

Create

The 11th project is a project that easily adds a wonderful touch to previous projects. This project is shared from the amazing Morgen Larsen who brought us the book tree project on day 4. This project can easily be added to the Makedo tree from day 3 or it becomes part of your ugly sweater from day 1 and 2.

When I taught at the middle school I had a 3D Print Ornament Challenge and you coudl easily do this and replace the 3D prints with these ornaments.

How else could we remix the ideas with what we have been learning?

Share

Add your project or any other projects you are working on through these options to share how you approached today’s challenge or the one from yesterday. Then, check out and comment on some other examples when they are shared.

Besides using the hashtag #25daysofmaking on Instagram and Twitter I am also posting the projects over on Facebook so you can interact on this platform as well.

Finally, don’t forget to head over to Flipgrid and introduce yourself and/or your students!

Reflect

This element is important! Don’t neglect reflection on your own learning. We must be lifelong learners and be models to our students.

Take a moment to reflect on your creative process by sharing with the hashtags and other mediums. Let us start a conversation about this concept. How did remixing help you? What questions do you still have about remixing?

Giving a shout out to my friend in New South Wales. Australia. Karl emailed me some of these cool LEGO builds from the previous challenge.

Karl is an amazing educator who I have been able to connect with through the beautiful power of the internet. In his email he shared with me some ideas.

First, their Australian school year is about to finish in 8 days!(don’t be jealous all my American friends). I know I am jealous!

The four designs come from builders at LEGO from the Lego Club Magazine from about 9-10 years ago.

Karl takes them to his Makerspace Club at school to inspire and motivate and hopefully create their own.

He is hoping that by sharing with all of you it might inspire us to make our own and share!

Thanks Karl for sharing and helping to connect the dots with other makers no matter where we live!

ICYMI this was part of our day 10 build challenge
